Scientists asked volunteers - women and men - what factors facilitate or make it difficult for them to maintain normal body mass. Information on the weight and lifestyle of study participants was collected twice - when they were 24 and 34 years old.
It turned out that over the decade, the majority of respondents grew on average by one kilogram per year. Only 7.5 percent. women and 3.8 percent men lost unnecessary kilos during this time.
The main factors that were conducive to gaining weight were irregular eating habits, slimming, frequent consumption of sweetened beverages, poor life satisfaction and - in the case of women - the birth of at least two children. In men, the additional risk factor was smoking.
Before the weight gain, she primarily protected her physical activity.
According to the researchers, the results of the study suggest that maintaining a healthy body weight is not a matter of getting rid of unnecessary kilograms, but maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It is important to eat regular meals, engage in physical activity, taking care of mental well-being and having a life goal - experts say.
