Russia increased import quotas for meat
By becoming a member of the WTO in August 2012, Russia committed itself in the negotiations on the agricultural sector to reduce protectionist behavior and increase quotas for agricultural products
The result in 2013 will be able to export more meat products at preferential rates of duty. These changes are particularly important for exporters of poultry meat. Quota for this product will increase by 7% (22.67 thousand tons) per annum and will be 364 thousand. t The export quota for chilled pork will increase to 40 thousand., of which 29 thousand. t has been granted to countries of the European Union. An export allocation for frozen beef and pork will not change and will remain at the level of 530 thousand (60 thousand. T for the EU) and 400 thousand. t
As for Polish exports, Russia is a major recipient of live pigs (according to Eurostat data, about 21% of Polish exports in the first nine months of 2012), but for the other categories related to the meat market is now a marginal recipient with an average 5-percent . share in exports. You can however expect that the slow liberalization of the market will create new opportunities for companies interested in entering the Russian market.
